Why 2016 won't be your year

Admit it! 2016 is NOT going to be your year. You aren't going to get that promotion. You aren't going to get that sale. You aren't going to get anything you wanted, and here is why.

 

You try to do to much. Look at that list of To-Do's. Look at how many things you want to accomplish this year. You plan on accomplishing that before June and then your business will succeed. The early bird may catch the worm, but the tired bird takes a nap and misses everything.

 

My Dad always said patience is a virtue, and I hated him for that. I did not want to hear it. Now, I know better. Listen to those kind words. Patience is a virtue and if you have it at the start of the year you will have success. 

 

Look, if you try to plug away at too many items, you will get overwhelmed, overloaded and end up over the top bat shit crazy. So be realistic. Pick out one maybe two things you want to accomplish per month and start there. You can always add another thing if you get through that list of one or two. But you can't take them off the list once they are there. 

 

Here's mine.

 

January - Record and launch my new podcast that focuses on coaching youth sports

Feburuary -Start collecting email addresses and write my first email to subscribers, gain one new client

March - Gain my second new client - kids are on Spring Break

April - Attend RAIN Conference in Las Vegas get my 3rd client on board

May - Lock down 4th and 5th new clients

June - Create Mid-Year reports for all clients

July - Record/Edit audiobook for 6th new client

August - Host Webinar on "Becoming the Host you really can be on your podcast"

Sept - Grab 7th and 8th client with short three month deals  

Oct - Visit SF to re-up Bay area contract and meet with potential new clients

Nov - Sign your 9th and 10th new clients to contracts

Dec - Enjoy the holidays, you've worked hard to get 10 new clients


Yes, it's going to be a busy year but also one that is balanced and beneficial. If I had said I need 10 new clients, launch a weekly email newsletter, attend a conference in Las Vegas, record an audiobook, host a Webinar and host monthly meetings in SF, I would have quit before I started. 

 

When you look at that list, do you think you could achieve that? Remember we are running a business and have families with kids. Would you do more or less? If you do nothing, 2016 will be your worst year yet. But if you move forward, slowly and patiently, 2016 is going to set the standard for all of your future successes. Good luck.
